The release of Shell Shocked Land marks thirty years since the execution of writer and activist Ken Saro-Wiwa and the Ogoni 9, who were killed in 1995 for resisting Shell’s destruction of their homeland in the Niger Delta.
Through the voices of family members and community leaders, the film reflects on the courage of the Ogoni 9 and the lasting impact of Shell’s operations – from oil spills and contamination to the struggle for cleanup, justice, and accountability that continues today.
Created in partnership with Oil Change International (OCI) and the Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF), Shell Shocked Land stands as a call to remember, to reckon, and to renew the fight for a just, community-led energy future.
